The canoe sprint events (kayak and canoe) held in Azerbaijan's Mingachevir city as part of the First European Games in Baku have wrapped up.

In women's kayak single event (5,000 meters), Maryna Litvinchuk won the gold medal, while Lani Belcher (UK) grabbed the silver medal. Renata Csay (Hungary) won the bronze medal.

Azerbaijan's representative Inna Osipenko-Rodomska failed to reach the finish line.

In men's kayak single event (5,000 meters), the gold medal was grabbed by Max Hoff (Germany), silver medal - Fernando Pimenta (Portugal) and bronze medal - Cyrille Carre (France).

Azerbaijan won one medal in canoe sprint events. Azerbaijan's representative in these competitions, Valentin Demyanenko won a silver medal.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.

There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
