Azerbaijani boxer pulls out of semifinals at Baku 2015 due to injury

Azerbaijani super heavyweight (+91kg) Mahammadrasul Majidov had to pull out of the Baku 2015 boxing tournament because of an injury, said the message posted on the website of Baku 2015 European Games Operation Committee (BEGOC).

Majidov got injured while competing against Ali Demirezen (Turkey) in the quarterfinals and team doctors have ruled it would be unsafe for him to continue.

Majidov was due to compete in the semifinals on June 25 against Gasan Gimbatov (Russia) who will now advance straight to the finals.

Coach Nariman Abdullayev (Azerbaijan) said that Majidov was injured very badly.

The European Games that kicked off June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
