Azerbaijan's celebrity ambassadors played an important role in holding the First European Games in Baku, Simon Clegg, chief operating officer of BEGOC said July 1.

He made the remarks during the final press conference on completing the Celebrity Ambassadors program carried out as part of Baku 2015.

Clegg expressed gratitude to the participants of this program and didn't rule out that such projects can be organized again.

The Celebrity Ambassadors program allowed Baku 2015 to reach a range of audiences in Azerbaijan and Europe, using the celebrities' star appeal and popularity to share messages about the First European Games.

Participants helped promote the Games by visiting venues, taking part in countdown events, supporting campaigns, and using their own social media channels to reach millions of followers.

The celebrity ambassadors included Azerbaijani singers Tunzala Aghayeva, Roya, Eurovision winners Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal, comedians Bahram Baghirzade, Rafael and Joshqun, and Tahir and Jabir Imanov, and musicians DJ Shock and Miri Yusif and others. Well-known presenters Murad Dadashov and Ilkin Hasani also took part.

The First European Games kicked off in Baku June 12 and wrapped up June 28. The Games hosted 20 sports - 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports. Over 6,000 athletes represented the European countries at Baku 2015.
