The SOCAR company (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) has already received several offers on the tender to determine the EPC-contractor for the construction of polyethylene production within SOCAR Polymer project in Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park, a representative of the project told Trend August 26.
"We have already received first proposals from the applicants for the EPC-contract for the polyethylene plant," said the representative. "By the end of October, we will determine the winner and make a final investment decision."
Previously, the company Maire Tecnimont was chosen as EPC-contractor for the construction of the polypropylene plant within the framework of SOCAR Polymer.
SOCAR Polymer project is implemented in Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park. This project implementation will make it possible to produce 180,000 metric tons of polypropylene and 120,000 metric tons of polyethylene per year. Production of the propylene polymer is expected to begin in 2016, while the production of polyethylene - in 2017. Most of the production will be sent to markets of Turkey and countries of Western Europe.
