Europe wants to see Azerbaijan in EU Energy Community

Europe would like to see Azerbaijan among the countries of the EU Energy Community, said Janez Kopač, director of the Energy Community Secretariat.
He made remarks at a meeting with the Azerbaijani Energy Minister Natig Aliyev, Azerbaijan's Energy ministry said Feb. 5.
The sides discussed the current level of cooperation and its perspectives during the meeting. In addition, Azerbaijan's important role in ensuring Europe's energy security, the importance and progress of the Southern Gas Corridor project were also noted.
The minister said that Azerbaijan fully satisfies the domestic demand for fuel and energy resources.
Currently, one of the main priorities of Azerbaijan's energy sector is to reduce losses and high energy efficiency, said Aliyev.
"The two state programs are prepared for this purpose in the country, and it would be useful to use in this regard advice and assistance of the EU Energy Community," he added.
In return, Kopač said that the Energy Community is ready to render technical support for Azerbaijan to prepare and improve the legislative basis in the energy efficiency sphere.
"We are also ready to assist Azerbaijan in development of cooperation within the framework of the new stage of INOGATE (Interstate Oil and Gas transport to Europe) regional energy program and conducting reforms," said Kopač.
As a result of the meeting, the sides agreed to sign a protocol between Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry and the EU Energy Community in the future.
