Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan may establish joint venture in oil and gas industry

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are considering the possibility of establishing a joint venture in the oil and gas industry, Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov said prior to the 15th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, Kazinform reported.

"Azerbaijan, as well as Kazakhstan, has a rich history of the development of the oil and gas industry. Today Kazakhstan has major projects in in oil and gas production, and we can combine efforts and create a joint venture on mutually beneficial terms," he said.

The minister also shared plans for cooperation in other areas.

"As for agriculture, we want to introduce new components within our working group. Azerbaijan has always been an agricultural country, and we have a lot of products that we can supply to Kazakhstan. We agreed to continue our activities in this area," Shahbazov said.

He also spoke about the development of tourism, the possibility of launching new cruises on the Caspian Sea, and issues related to the simplification of the visa regime between the two countries.

"There are a lot of issues where we can work very fruitfully," the minister added.

Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, in turn, said that the creation of oil machine building plants in Kazakhstan with the participation of Azerbaijani capital, with Azerbaijani experience, skills and technologies, for the further sale of products to oil companies is being discussed.

"We also consider the construction of a liquefied gas production plant in Aktau for further export to Azerbaijan and transit. These issues are on the agenda," Bozumbayev said.
