BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31. The construction of Azerbaijan's Garadagh solar power plant is expected to be completed by the end of this year, Maryam Rashed Al Mazroui, Masdar's (renewable energy company) Team Leader for Development & Investment in Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the Baku Energy Week told Trend.
"We started working with the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan in 2018. At the moment, we are working on the construction of the first renewable energy station in the country - a solar power plant with a capacity of 230 MW," Al Mazroui said.
According to her, last year Masdar signed two agreements with the above ministry, which cover another solar power plant with a capacity of 1GW, an onshore power plant with a capacity of 1 GW, as well as offshore production of green hydrogen with a capacity of 2GW.
"We have already made progress in the development of these projects and are actively cooperating with the ministry to continue working on projects," Al Mazroui added.
According to the team leader, work is currently underway to determine the locations for these stations. To do this, it is expected to sign a project agreement with the ministry.
Moreover, Al Mazroui also sees a huge potential in the development of green energy in Azerbaijan and the possibility of producing about 157GW of offshore wind energy in the Caspian Sea.
