BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15. Electricity production in Azerbaijan decreased by 6.1 percent from January through April 2024 against the same period in 2023, Trend reports, referring to Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry.
In the first 4 months of 2024, 9.249 billion kWh of electricity was produced by all power facilities in the country, compared to 9.852 billion kWh from January through April 2023. According to the ministry, during the reporting period, Azerbaijan's thermal power plants reduced electricity generation to 8.198 billion kWh from 9.266 billion kWh in the first four months of 2023.
Electricity generation at HPPs also decreased to 332.6 million kWh from 462 million kWh from January through April 2023. For other energy sources, electricity generation increased to 131.9 million kWh from 124 million kWh for the period from January through April 2023.
Moreover, wind power plants in Azerbaijan generated 21 million kWh of electricity in the reporting period of this year (almost the level of 4 months in 2023), and solar power plants recorded a significant growth of 144.4 million kWh against 19.1 million kWh.
The municipal solid waste incineration plant produced 90.5 million kWh against 83.5 million kWh of electricity from January through April 2023. During the reporting period, Azerenerji's electricity production amounted to 8.19 billion kWh against 8.892 billion kWh.
The state energy service of Nakhchivan AR recorded an increase to 132.9 million kWh from 128.95 million kWh from January through April 2023, in particular, for solar plants - 18.6 million kWh against 17.35 million kWh in 4 months of 2023.
The wind power plants of Azerishig OJSC produced 14.8 million kWh from January through April 2024, compared to 16.4 million kWh of electricity from January through April 2023.
