Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict Materials 15 April 2008 17:03 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 April / Trend corr E. Huseynli/ According to the mandate of OSCE Chairman-in-office's personal representative Andrzej Kasprzyk, monitoring of the troops contact line nearby Tapgaragoyunlu village of Azerbaijan's Goranboy region did not result in any incident, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry reported to Trend .

In 1994, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a ceasefire agreement and are still holding peaceful negotiations since that time. OSCE periodically monitors the troops contact line for protection of the ceasefire.

The conflict between the two countries of the South Caucasus began in 1988 due to Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan lost the Nagorno-Karabakh, except of Shusha and Khojali, in December 1991. In 1992-93, Armenian Armed Forces occupied Shusha, Khojali and Nagorno-Karabakh's seven surrounding regions. In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement at which time the active hostilities ended. The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group ( Russia, France, and the US) are currently holding peaceful, but fruitless negotiations.

From Azerbaijani side, the monitoring was held by Andrzej Kasprzyk and his assistants Peter Ki and Antal Herdic.
