Armenian armed forces have broken ceasefire with Azerbaijan 22 times in numerous positions in the last 24 hours, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said on Oct.27.
Armenian armed forces, located near the villages of Yusifjanli of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Ashagi Veyselli, Garakhanbeyli of Fizuli, Mehdili of Jabrayil district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces.
Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the positions located at the nameless heights of Khojavend and Fizuli districts.
The opposing side was silenced with return fire.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
