Over the past 24 hours, Armenia’s armed forces have 123 times violated the ceasefire in various directions along the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.
The Armenian army was using large caliber machine guns.
Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in Gaymagli, Kemerli, Gushchu Ayrim and on the nameless heights in Gazakh district, Agbulag, Kokhanebi of Tovuz and on the nameless heights of Gadabay district underwent fire from the Armenian army positions located on nameless heights of Ijevan region, villages of Barekamavan, Berdavan, Shavarshavan of Noyemberyan, Chinari of Berd and on nameless heights in Krasnoselsk district of Armenia.
Azerbaijani Armed Forces also took fire from the positions located near the occupied Goyarkh, Chileburt villages of Terter district, Merzili, Garagashli, Sarijali, Shikhlar, Yusifjanli, Bash Gervend and Shuraabad of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Gorgan, Ashagi Veyselli, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Garakhanbeyli of Fizuli district, as well as from the positions located on the nameless heights in Goygol, Goranboy, Terter, Khojavend, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
