Armenian President Robert Kocharian stated that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs call on the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders to meet in January 2006, Trend reports in reference to Mediamax news agency.

The President stated on it during the meeting the representatives of the Armenian community of Greece in Athens 10 November. "The co-chairs are expected to visit the region in December. The mediators call on the Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents to meet in January 2006. The co-chairs were a bit hurry with consideration of the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia in 2007 and 2008 respectively. 2006 is a year free from elections tension and it will be possible to work inactively,” he underlined.

Kocharian said that he actually saw the opportunities for progress, though we don’t commit ourselves to hurry. "If there is a favorable variant for us for resolution of the Karabakh conflict, it would be unwise to lose this chance. However, it we target to achieve a solution to the conflict in 2006, or 2007. Another point is we, as well as the entire region will benefit from the settlement of the conflict. Therefore, we participate in the talks seriously, but not with respect to gain time,” the Armenian President underscored.
