Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 April / Trend corr K. Zarbaliyeva/ Two Iranian citizens were killed as they resisted armed patrolmen at the Azerbaijani border.
"On 21 April, residents of the Bilasuvar region of Azerbaijan Zair Guliyev, Abutalib Muradov (holding previous convictions) and Khanlar Majidov, in collaboration with Iranian citizens, attempted to smuggle alcoholic beverages into Iran via the border post," Azerbaijani Interior Ministry reported on 22 April.
The Iranian citizens showed resistance to the State Border Service of Azerbaijan and were shot dead by reciprocal fire. Guliyev, Majidov and Muradov managed to escape but were later caught and detained.
A criminal case into the incident has been filed.
