Emergency Ministry: Freshet washes away soil covering Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline

As a result of water-rise in the Atachai River in Siyazan region of Azerbaijan, the water has eroded part of the upper layer of soil covering the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The ministry informed the relevant bodies about the incident. Presently, activities to eliminate the consequences of the erosion are underway.

Siyazan is located in 130 km north of Baku. The length of the oil pipeline Baku-Novorossiysk is 1,147 km, with 231 km passing through the territory of Azerbaijan.
