The roof of the Basman market in Moscow collapsed because of the unsatisfactory condition of the building- the given conclusion has been made by the special commission, created by the government to investigate the incident.
The accident couldnt happen because of the excessive weight, the report stated, Trend reports. It was proved that the technical exploitation of the market was not performed in accordance with the rules, some part of the roof sections have been rusty on 50%- the statement said. Analysis of the steel frames showed that they have been made of so-called boiling steel, known for its high sturdiness. On the other hand experts discovered that a reconstruction has been conducted in the building to increase the work places, and quality of provided services in order to enhance
goods commodity. The given reconstruction could add additional weight to the upper levels of the roof.
The heavy snowfall of February 22-23, 2006 increased the amounts of snow pressure on already strained and deformed constructions of the roof.
Experts noted that most likely factors leading to the roof dome collapse could, accumulate during the long period of time without showing any sings. Besides, important role could have demerits of the construction, change in climate and most certainly combination of the above mentioned factors, RBK told.
