Iranian Smugglers Fire at Car of Chief of Azerbaijan’s Department to Combat Narcotics
Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / Azerbaijani police detained smugglers regarding a large contraband of narcotics on the Iranian border. Several days ago, the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry's Head of the Department to Combat Narcotics discovered more than 40kg of opium and 8kg of heroin within the territory of Azerbaijan's district of Jallabad. The narcotics were brought in via the route of Iran-Azerbaijan, a law-enforcement source reported to Trend. The operation was headed by the Chief of the Department, Azi Aslanov.
During the operation the armed smugglers resisted arrest. The smugglers fired at the car driven by Aslanov. Aslanov confirmed the information in his interview with Trend. He refused to disclose the details of the incident. According to Aslanov, the information will be announced in several days.
Recently the employees of the Ministry of National Security detained two groups during their attempt to bring in a large amount of narcotics via the Azerbaijan-Iran route.
