Detained Demonstrators Released

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / The demonstrators who were detained during a protest action in front of Iranian Embassy in Baku have been released, according to the Congress of World Azerbaijanis (CWA).

CWA Activists, the Movement for National Awakening of South Azerbaijan, and other organizations held a demonstration in front of the Iranian Embassy in Baku due to the beginning of the new academic year in Iran. They protested against the fact that native Azerbaijanis residing in Iran were unable to receive education in their native language, the discrimination policy, pursuance by the Iranian Government with respect to Azerbaijanis and the mass arrest of activists of the national movement of South Azerbaijan (Iranian province).

The action was prevented by the police. Police officers relieved the protesters of their flags and transparencies and detained 12 participants. The detainees were released after warning.
