The newly appointed NATO communications officer to South Caucasus is scheduled to pay his visit to Azerbaijan on 15 October.
Robert Simmons, the Special Representative for South Caucasus of the NATO Secretary General after his arrival in Baku on Thursday evening (27 September) said that hence is going to pay a regular visit to Baku.
Regarding the purpose of his visit , Simmons said : main issue to discuss will be the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), which Azerbaijan has joined.
Appraising Azerbaijan's activities in this direction, Simons particularly stressed wide range reforms on IPAP, especially in the defense sector.
He said: Azerbaijan adopted the second part of IPAO. This vital document is needed for permanent improvement. The second part of the document stipulates projects, related to civil society and improvement of the defense system.
With respect to the necessity of appointing a civilian as the Minister of Defense, the special representative said that the problem is not so important.
"The important point is that the government and Parliament of Azerbaijan carried out control over the armed forces," Simmons stressed.
