Azerbaijan’s West Region Reveals 36 Drug Trafficking Cases

Azerbaijan, Ganja / Тrend corr V. Mammadov / Within the first 9 months of 2007 a total of 36 drug trafficking cases were revealed in Azerbaijan's West Region, the acting head of the West Regional Department at Azerbaijan Interior Ministry's Drug Combating Department, Rafael Ismayilov, said to Trend.

According to him, 22 crimes were drug selling, 11 - drug storage, 1 - smuggling.

Thirty-four people were made answerable for the crimes.

A surprising 44kg of drugs were remove from illegal turnover, with 41.81kg of them being marihuana, 208gm - hashish, 2.5gm - opium, 2.784gm - heroin.

This year within the framework of 'Khashkhash' plan 74 tones of hemp, 2 tones of illegal tobacco, and 100 cigarettes were seized.
