Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Alizade / According to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission, amendments are impossible to be made in the near future to the Constitution regarding re-establishment of the proportional election system, said the Chairman of Azerbaijan Parliament's Permanent Commission for Legal Policy and State Establishment , member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, MP Ali Huseynov.

"I would like to remember the results of 2002 referendum. The citizens gave preference to the majority system and we should respectfully approach this choice. It is difficult for the parliamentarians elected through majority system to work. They should be involved in the affairs of legislation and problems of voters," Huseynov added. Earlier mixed proportional-majority election system was in existence in Azerbaijan and the parliamentary elections were held according to it. As a result of 2002 referendum to the Constitution, the proportional system was fully denied and the majority election system became active. Several parliamentarians from ruling New Azerbaijan Party, pro-governmental Ana Veten Party, opposition parties and international organizations consider it necessary to re-establish the proportional election system.

Huseynov calls on those who joined the discussions regarding re-establishment proportional election system to respectfully approach the decision which they also propagated.
