State Bodies Must Hold Elections in   Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan Party’s Chairman

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / Democratic Reforms Party (DRP) of Azerbaijan proposes state bodies to hold elections in the country, MP Asim Mollazadeh, the chairman of the party, said.

Central Election Commission and divisional election committees hold elections in Azerbaijan.

Composition of Azerbaijani election commissions consisting of 18 people, members of parties represented in the Parliament, as well as independent MPs. Azerbaijan and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe hold discussion concerning changes in the Election Code of Azerbaijan, and re-considers the composition of election commissions.

DRP's chairman considers elections should be organized and held by state structures. Such a practice is used in European countries, Mollazadeh said.

'The ruling New Azerbaijan Party monopolized election commissions. Political parties must to participate in elections not only as observers," MP said.

The proportional election system should be restored in Azerbaijan.
