PACE to Discuss Frozen Conflicts in Berlin

France, Strasburg /corr. Trend A.Maharremli, A.Gasimova / The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) initiates conducting discussions in Berlin with regards to the "frozen conflicts". The conference focusing on the "frozen conflicts" has been scheduled for 5-6 November, a source in the PACE reported to Trend on 19 October.

The Conference will be held jointly by the OSCE Monitoring Committee and German Institute for International and Security Affairs. The event will be opened by the Chairman of the Monitoring Committee, Edurad Lintner. The report regarding Historian's view on unresolved regional conflicts in the Black Sea region and the Caucasus will be delivered by the Prof. of Frankfurt University, Volker Jacobi. In addition, reports will be made by the Head of the Department for International Affairs of Russia's Institute of Political and Military View, Sergey Markedonov, Deputy Secretary of Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, Tomas Markert and others. Later, discussions will take place with regards to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The discussions will be opened by the Head of the PACE Ad Hoc Committee on Nagorno-Karabakh, Lord Russell Johnson and later, speech will be given by the Director of Caucasus Programs (London), Jonathan Koen and a report 'EU prospects in resolving Nagorno-Karabakh conflict' by the Prof. of Nottingem University, Stephan Volf.

The second part of the conference will be dedicated to the conflicts in Georgia (Abkhaz and South Osetia). The topic will be delivered by the PACE rapporteur for Georgia, Matias Ershi, as well as a speech will be made by the Research Director of the Institute for Central Asia and Caucasus at the US Jon Hopkins University, Svant Cornell.

The third part of the conference will focus on the Trinistria conflict. The topic will be opened by the PACE rapporteur for Moldova, Jozet Dureu.

On the next day, the conference will cover future prospects of resolving frozen conflicts, speeches will be made by the Chairman of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, Foreign Minister of Serbia, Vuk Jeremich, Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Russia. Moreover, attended by EU Special Representative for South Caucasus, Peter Semneby, French Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Bernard Fassier and others, exchange of views will take place.
