Azerbaijan Must Maintain Control over Army: Azerbaijani Political Expert(video)
Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / "If people intended to commit terror or any other illegal actions in the Azerbaijan armed forces, the authorities should investigate the activities of its army counter-intelligence," said Rasim Musabayov, an independent Azerbaijani political expert.
Lieutenant Kamran Asadov, an officer from military division N of the Defense Ministry, acting in a criminal conspiracy with other members of a radical Wahabist group, deserted his military unit and took with him four submachine guns, one machine gun and 20 grenades, along with shells and other military equipment. Law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan have established that the radical religious group intended to commit terror acts in strategic buildings, including diplomatic facilities.
"Our special service organizations lost control over the situation a little bit," the political expert said.
Any radical activities intended for terrorism, as a rule, are fueled abroad. "I think this situation is not exclusive and done by forces interested in destabilizing Azerbaijan, as a means of pressuring the leadership and the public of Azerbaijan," he stressed.
To prevent the spread of radical Wahabism in the military divisions of the Azerbaijan Army, control has been strengthened, Eldar Safarov, the spokesman for the defense ministry informed Trend.
Safaroglu said that reports on the existence of a military among wahabbists are without foundation.
