Azerbaijani Opposition Charge Council of Europe of Lack of Principal Positions towards Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / Four Azerbaijani opposition parties charge the Council of Europe of lack of principal and consistent positions towards the ongoing democratic processes in Azerbaijan, Sardar Jalaloglu, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA), said to Trend news agency on 8 November.

The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), Democratic Party, Liberal Party and Musavat Party do not attend at discussions demonstrating protest against the organizer of the discussions the International Foundation of Election System (IFES). The four parties state that only these four parties must attend at the discussions on behalf of the Azerbaijani opposition.

According to Jalaloglu, the Council of Europe does not stick to principal position towards Azerbaijani problems concerning political prisoners, freedom of speech and press, as well as fair elections and never insists on implementation of its proposals so far.

"If we to take part in discussions of the Election Code the process will turn to circus rather than political dialogue," Jalaloglu said.

The Council of Europe should not put forward new proposals every time, however should try to implement a concrete proposal. The four parties believe that the Council should make stop on the proposal concerning formation of election commissions from parties, which passed one percent t barrier during the parliamentary elections.

The parties would attend at more serious discussions than the current one, DPA's chairman added.
