Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Ramazanova / A round table dedicated to election issues which took place in Azerbaijan can be called the beginning of improvement of the Election Code, Peter Paskolay, a representative of the Venice Commission, said.

"We will take into consideration all suggestions made. After that it will be the Azerbaijani Government to decide whether to make changes in the Election Code or not," Paskolay said after the round table in Baku on 9 November. According to him, it should be taken into account that changes in the legislation should correspond with international standards and should enjoy social trust.

According to the head of the Baku Office of the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES), Daniel Blessington, the discussions were efficient. "That will give an impetus to organization of analogical discussion," he said.

A document will be developed on the results of the discussions. The Council of Europe does not offer all countries the same elections system, the head of the Council of Europe's Baku office Daniel Bribosia said. "We want them to be formed in each country through discussions."
