Turkish Parliamentary Speaker to Embark on First Visit Abroad From Azerbaijan – Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / The Speaker of the Turkish Supreme Popular Assembly, Keksal Toptan, will launch his first travels abroad with a visit to Azerbaijan. The visit is scheduled for 28 and 30 November, Zakir Gashimov, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Turkey, said in the interview by a telephone to trend news agency.

The fact that the first stop on the speaker's tour begins in Azerbaijan is a real indication of how much importance Turkey places on its relations with Azerbaijan, the Ambassador said.

The Turkish Speaker is planning to meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh, and the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Ogtay Asadov.

During the trip, Mr.Toptan is planning to visit a school in Baku that was constructed when Mr.Toptan was the Education and Culture Minister of Turkey.

During the course of his stay, Toptan will also go to Ganja City in Azerbaijan. A group of MPs of the Turkish Parliament will accompany the Speaker during his visit to Azerbaijan.

Mr.Toptan was elected to the position of Speaker during parliamentary elections in July 2007. Mr.Toptan is the chairman of the Justice and Development Party (JDP) of Turkey and was elected as MP for the seven times.
