Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizade / The Azerbaijani policy, especially the political field, needs changes. "When there are no new ideas, work, and results, people estrange themselves from politics. The trust in parties and politicians escapes. Therefore, the Azerbaijani opposition and the political camp are generally in a difficult situation," the chair of the opposition Islamic Democratic Party Tahir Abbasli said on 6 December.

After the parliamentary elections of 2005, the Azerbaijani opposition split in several parts. Since that time till now it has been impossible to achieve cooperation among opposition parties and opposition politicians.

According to Abbasli, a monopolistic system is governing the opposition. "As a result, there is not result. The parties considering themselves to be leading made unreal suggestions in different periods. That undermines the trust in them. At the same time, such political games prevent appearing of new ideas and leaders," he said.

"The expression 'today's leaders should leave the scene', which can be heard both among the public and the opposition, is a result of the processes which have been on-going for several years.

The Islamic Democratic Party was established in 2002.
