Date for Special Meeting by Group of People Oppose World Congress of Azerbaijanis Set

Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 January / Trend corr. S.ILhamgizi / The date for the special meeting of people who oppose the World Congress of Azerbaijanis (WCA) headed by Javad Darahti, the former chairman of the organization, was set.

Rahim Shahbazi, the WCA representative in the United States, stated to Trend that there was taken a decision to hold the special meeting in Stockholm on 23 and 24 February.

Gulamrza Sabri Tabrizi was elected the new chairman of the organization during the 9th meeting in summer 2007. A group of WCA activists, protesting against the functioning of Tabrizi, took a decision to summon the special meeting of the organization. The activists stated that the Charter of the organization, as well as power of the organization members, elected during the meeting, have been violated after the 9th meeting.

WCA have been experience crisis for the first time for last ten years. The special meeting will be held in Europe, the United States and ten other countries.

The WCA was founded in the United States in 1997. The organization protects the rights of world Azerbaijanis and is fighting for independence of South Azerbaijan (an Iranian province). In 2003, the organization was divided into two parts. The group protesting against Javad Darakhti, a former chair of WCA, established its own organization with the same name. But later it was re-named as the Democratic World Congress of Azerbaijanis.
