GUAM Foreign Ministers Meet in   Munich

Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 February / corr Trend S.Agayeva / The foreign ministers of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM - will hold an informal meeting in Munich. The meeting will be held within the framework of a conference on security which began in Munich on 8 February with the participation of foreign ministers of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, the Azerbaijani embassy in Berlin said during a telephone call. .

The foreign ministers of the GUAM member-countries will discuss further development of the organization.

Four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization but left four years later. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev a decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization with a new name; Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM.

Elmar Mammadyarov, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, is participating in the international conference.
