Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 February / corr. Trend S. Ilhamgizi/ The campaign to downgrade the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic and the role of its leaders in the Azerbaijani history, is inadmissible, according to Trend, Isa Gambar, the head of the Musavat (Equality) Party of Azerbaijan said in a party meeting dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party -founded in 1918. The head of the party said that founders of the republic were great personalities; therefore it is not right to call them traitors.

Kamil Hasanli, an MP and professor, said that the Azerbaijani Democratic republic was the first democratic republic in the East. One of its founders was Mammad Amin Rasulzadeh, whose chief aim was the independence of Azerbaijan. Hasanli added that Rasulzadeh was the only political figure who was elected to the Russian parliament from Russia and Turkistan (World of Turks). Hasanli said that it is inadmissible to accuse Fatal Khan Koyski, one of the founders of the republic of the treason who died as a result of the Armenian fire in 1920.

The professor Maryam Orujlu said that National Council of the Democratic Republic gave the Azerbaijani city of Yerevan to Armenia due to the difficult historical conditions. According to Orujoglu, some people try to represent this decision of the National Council of ADR as a crime and to use it for their political purposes. "The independence that Azerbaijan obtained in 1918 was not accepted even in the fraternal Turkey unambiguously and the neighboring Iran viewed it with irony. However, the political leaders who founded the Republic liberated Baku from the foreign troops, announced it a capital of the ADR and founded an independent state," the professor said.
