Representative of United States OIC May Start Dialogue with Islamic World – OIC Official

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 March / Trend corr. R.Hafizoglu / Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) of the US may restore its lost power amongst Muslims after the 11 September events and prepare for discussions. "OIC Representation of the United States may be considered as the beginning of the dialogue of America with OIC," Mehti Fathullah, OIC Political Bureau Director, stated to Trend .

According to information by the US State Department from 3 March 2008, Seda Cumberi, 57, Pakistani businessman, was appointed as the United State representative in the OIC. The United States President George Bush stated in his interview that the mission by the organization representatives demonstrates that America supports freedom, peace and Islam.

America's OIC representative may gain positive results in resolving problems. "In spite of problems that exist between America and Islam world, America's representation in the organization is a positive and valuable step," Fathullah stated during a telephone discussion from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Merv Kavakchi, an expert at the George Washington University, believes that the OIC United States representative may result in reducing the number of anti-American opinions amongst the Muslims. "This step may restore the United States authority amongst Muslim after the 11 September events," Kavakchi said to Trend .

One of the key problems of the United States is that it is recognized as an invader country. A number of projects are implemented in the United States to restore the authority of the country amongst Muslims, Kavakchi noted. "The Islamic world may utilize the OIC United States representatives for its own interest. Muslims may alter the wrong opinion about Islam which has been formed in the United States," the expert stated.
