Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 March / Trend / On 14 March, the Prosecutor General of Turkey Abdurrahman Yalcinkaya applied to the Turkish Constitutional Court, urging it to ban the operation of the Justice and Development Party.

The Prosecutor General said that he had initiated the lawsuit because the activities of the Justice and Development Party contradict with the principles of building of a secular state.

Chairman of the Party Recep Tayyip Erdogan convened a meeting of the party in this connection, after which the deputy chairman Dengir Mir Mehmed Firat made an official statement.

Firat said that the lawsuit is intended not against the Party, but against the democracy of the country and the will of its people.

A range of political scientists and heads of European parties got astonished about the incident and condemned the Prosecutor General's Office headed by Yalcinkaya.
