Belgium, Brussels, 18 March / Trend corr K. Konirova/ When making the decision to accept Georgia to NATO, the organization will analyze Russia's reaction and all possible actions the country may take. "When making the decision on Georgia, NATO will seek a balance with Russia," an anonymous NATO official representative said in Brussels.

Presentation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP) to Georgia and Ukraine will be on the agenda of the NATO summit to take place in Bucharest on 2-4 April. The possible acceptance of the post-Soviet Georgia to NATO concerns Moscow a great deal and Russia threatens to take adequate measures against Tbilisi.

"The first step regarding Georgia - MAP - will be discussed at the forthcoming Bucharest summit," the NATO representative said at a briefing to the Central Asian media on 18 March. "We have definite procedures and will analyze how our decision on Georgia will affect relationships with Russia. We will have to make some balance," he said.

"However, NATO's key principle remains unchanged in that the decision on NATO membership must be taken only by NATO member- countries and no-one else. However, relationships with Russia are important and should be taken into account when considering the issue on Georgia," the NATO expert said.
