Islamic Party of Azerbaijan not Hurry to Attend Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 May /corr. Trend I.Alizade / The opposition Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) cancelled its decision to participate in the Presidential elections in October. "We stated that the participation of the Islamic Party in the elections will depend on its registration by the Ministry of Justice. However, the Ministry of Justice requires new documents to register the party. Therefore, the IPA High Assembly cancelled the decision to participate in the Presidential elections," the IPA representative Akif Heydarli reported to Trend .

Islamic Party of Azerbaijan was established in August 1991 and was registered by the Ministry of Justice in 1992. In 1995 the party was accused of anti-State activities and its registration was cancelled.

On Sunday the meeting of the IPA High Assembly was held to discuss its participation in the Presidential elections and other organizational issues.

"If the Ministry of Justice registers the party, an extraordinary meeting of the High Assembly will be held to make a decision on participation in the Presidential elections. We want to take part in the Presidential elections," party's representative said.

According to him, the Ministry demands personal documents of the newly appointed deputy chairmen of the party, partial constituent records.
