Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 May /Тrend News corr. J.Babayeva / Iskandar Hamidov, former chairman of the National Democratic party of Azerbaijan (NDPA) was elected as a member of the Organization Committee (consists of 15 members) on preparations to meeting of the party. The decision was taken in the meeting of the Supreme Assembly of the party in Baku on 11 May.
Hamidov stated that he would stop his political carrier. Party is preparing for a meeting to elect a new chairman.
Hamidov did not participate in the meeting of the Supreme Council of the party. Hamidov's resignation was adopted as a result of the voting in the meeting.
The decision to present NDPA in the Union 'For Democracy' and Democratic Election Centre (DEC) was taken before the meeting.
Oktai Khalilli, Chairman of the Organization Committee on preparations to meeting, stated to Trend that the issue on unification of the party with Azadlig party was expected to be discussed in the meeting on 11 May. However, the issue was not discussed in the meeting.
"The issue on unification with Azadlig is expected to be implemented during the meeting with Ahmad Oruj, Azadlig Chairman," Khalilli said.
Organization Committee was commissioned to set the date for 4th meeting.
The framework of participation program of NDPA in the upcoming presidential elections is also expected to be conferred in the meeting.
The Azerbaijan National Democrat Party, formerly known as the Grey Wolves Party, is a political party in Azerbaijan. It is the branch of the Grey Wolves in Azerbaijan. Iskandar Hamidov, a party member, was the Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party government. The party was banned in 1995 and Hamidov was imprisoned, however, the party is again functioning today with Hamidov as the party leader. In 1994, the party passed the state registration in the Justice Ministry.
