Baku City Administration Responds to Appeal of Opposition Party

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 May / corr. Trend J. Babayeva/ The Baku City Administration has not granted the permission to the pro-opposition Great Establishment Party (GEP) to stage a demonstration in front of the building of the State Property Management Committee on 16 May, Ajdar Aliyev, chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the party said to Trend .

GEP did not have a permanent premise since its establishment. The Party headquarters was always located in various rented premises. At present, the Party does not have any premises as it is not able to pay a rent.

Fazail Gazanfaroglu, the chairman of the party appealed the State Property Management Committee to provide them with premises; however the premises offered by the Committee did not suit the requirements of GEP.

According to Aliyev, the reply letter of Baku City Administration said that staging of demonstration in front of the Committee is inexpedient.

Gazanfaroglu stated to Trend that if Baku City Administration does not allow staging a demonstration, GEP will take the matter to court.

The opposition Great Establishment Party was founded in 2004 and was officially registered in 2005. The chairman of the Party Gazanfaroglu is an MP of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani parliament).
