Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Studies Mironov’s Statement on Sevastopol

Ukraine, Kiev, 26 May / corr. Trend Z. Novosvitskiy/ The Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is studying the statement by the chairman of the Council of Federation of Russia Sergey Mironov on Sevastopol, the press service of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry of Ukraine said to Trend on 26 May.

The chairman of the Council of Federation Sergey Mironov does not rule out that Russia can raise the issue of return of Sevastopol, RBK reported on 26 May. Commenting on the statement of the Ukrainian President Victor Yushenko that the Black Sea Fleet of Russia should quit Sevastopol by 2017, Mironov said to media that he will instruct appropriate committees of the Council of Federation 'to think of the expediency of developing Bill on the Black Sea Fleet of Russia'. According to Mironov, the status of Sevastopol can not be subject of discussions yet.   

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that the official reaction to Mironov's statement of will probably be given on 27 June. "The spokesperson of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Vasiliy Kirilich will hold press briefing on 27 May. The position on this issue will probably be announced in thispress briefing," press service of the Foreign Ministry said. 

Last week, the President of Ukraine Yushenko instructed the government to work out a Bill on terminating international agreements on temporary presence of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia in Ukrainian territory by 2017. 

After initial discussions in April in Bucharest summit, NATO plans to consider introducing MAP to Ukraine in December once again.
