Russia May Withdraw Proposals on Construction of Radar in Gabala
"Russian administration may withdraw the proposal on joint exploitation of Azerbaijan's Gabala radar station with the United States in case of American missile shield elements are placed in Europe," Moskovsky Komsomolets paper cited representative of Russian Defence Ministry Lieutenant-General Evgeniy Buzhinki.
According to Buzhinki, Gabala radar station was offered as an alternative to Washington's plans to deploy missile shield elements in Poland and the Czech Republic, not as an addition to them.
Russia believes that United States' missile shield elements threaten its security. Washington states that they are intended to resist Iran's nuclear threat.
