Azerbaijani Fist Lady Conferred Diploma and OIC Goodwill Ambassador Title

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 June / Trend corr. K.Konirova / MP Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijan`s First Lady and the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was conferred a diploma and the title of Goodwill Ambassador of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on 11 June.

Ikmaladdin Ihsanoglu, the OIC Secretary General, presented the award to the First Lady.

"We are prepared to launch cooperation within the framework of the OIC and hope to meet again in Baku in 2010," Aliyeva said.

Aliyeva holds titles of the Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO as well.

The Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is an international organization with a permanent headquartered at the United Nations. The organization unites 57 Islamic countries from the Middle East, Africa, the Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Balkans, the Southeast Asia, the South Asia and the South America.

According to the Internet-encyclopaedia Википедии, the OIC was founded at the Conference of heads of state of Muslim countries in 1969 to ensure Islamic solidarity in social, economical and political spheres, as well as struggle against colonialism, neocolonialism and racism and to support the Palestine Liberation Organization.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Central-African Republic, the Russian Federation, as well as the National-Liberation Front of Philippines Moro and one several organizations more hold an observer status at the OIC.

The OIC is the largest and most influential official governmental Muslim international organization. At present, the organization unites 55 countries with the population of about 1.2bln people.
