Georgia Will Not Allow Russia to Join WTO – Georgian Economy Minister

Georgia, Tbilisi, 17 June / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / Ekaterina Sharashidze, the Georgian Minister of Economy, stated to journalists that the Georgian-Russian consultations, regarding joining of Russia to the World Trade Organization (WTO), may be restored if the decision by Vladimir Putin on 16 April to establish special relations with Georgian separatists regions will be cancelled.

Under Putin's decision, Russia must establish a direct economic and trade relations with Abkhazia and the Southern Ossetia.

" Georgia will not change its positions, and we demand cancellation of this decision, as well as legalization of the check-point in Abkhazian and South Ossetia plots in the Georgian-Russian border," the Minister said.

The multilateral consultations have been started, regarding the entrance of Russia into WTO, in Geneva. Georgia will block this process. The representative from the Georgian Ministry of Economy supervises the consultations in Geneva.
