Baku and Washington to Discuss Security Issues: US Assistant Deputy Secretary of State
Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 June / corr. Trend A.Gasimova / The next round of the Azerbaijani and American consultation on security will be held in mid-July, Matthew Bryza, the US Assistant Deputy Secretary of State said to Trend .
"I hope that we can hold the Azerbaijani and American consultation in mid-July. The exact date of the meeting has not been fixed yet," Bryza said via electronic mail on 21 June.
The previous Azerbaijani and American consultation was held in July 2007. This consultation focused on joint use of Gabala radar station, realization of joint practical programs, Euro Atlantic security, and situation in the Caspian Sea region and conflicts in the Southern Caucasus.
Azerbaijan approved plan on military cooperation between the Azerbaijani Armed forces and the US Armed Forces Command in Europe. In accordance with this plan, the US will assist the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in modernization, including equipping with modern armament and improving skills of military stuff.
