Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 July /corr. Trend E.Babayev / The oppositional parties of Azerbaijan stated that none of them can be alternative to Government. "The key favorite of the coming presidential elections will be Ilham Aliyev, and I do not consider the head of Musavat Party basic alternative to power," the Co-chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDP), Araz Alizade, told Trend .
The Presidential elections in Azerbaijan will take place on 15 October. Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan will officially announce the beginning and concrete date the elections.
The Head of Musavat Party, Isa Gambar,
stated that the basic fight in the elections will be between him and the
candidate of Government, current President Ilham Aliyev. In his opinion, other
oppositional forces understand this, and no one besides Musavat and Government thinks
about the elections as an access to power.
Alizade did not begin to comment on the opinion of Musavat Chairman. "The words
of Gambar means that as though in the world there is only God and Isa Gambar.
When Gambar in 1992-1993s was speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament, they beat up
deputies in the hall of parliament. If Gambar becomes President, this time they
will kill deputies," it added.
The Chairman of oppositional Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP), Sardar Jalaloglu told Trend on 17 July that the independent candidates in the elections can gain more serious victory than oppositional leaders. "It seems to me that if fair elections are held, independent candidates, who are not part of opposition, can gain victory as alternative. To be leader of political party, participate in the popular movements, be long time in the policy - all this can not be basic argument for the accession to power. These are the different criteria, which are the factors, which determine the role of man in the society, history. During the election campaign, it will be determined, who and what will obtain elections, present ratings will change," he noted.
Presidential candidate from the Green Party of Azerbaijan, Co-chairman Mayis Gulaliyev, told Trend on 17 July that in each party there is the period of the drop and progress. "Development period of Musavat began at the beginning of 1990s. The 2003 Presidential elections were the highest point of this development. After defeat in these elections, the period of decline Musavat began," Gulaliyev said, adding that the ideological base of Musavat no longer meets requirements, level of the development of society. Unlike Government, Musavathas not any program.
Does Musavat make more progressive ideas than government with regards to the questions of NATO, activity of transnational corporations in Azerbaijan, oil contracts, etc.? No. In that case it is not necessary to envy to the development of other parties," he said. Gulaliyev also added that Musavat attempts to gain victory exclusively via the criticism of authority, and this way leads to the Civil War. "Government must not be target. Government must be means for resolving problems. Musavat looks at the Government as target," he emphasized.
