Azerbaijani Political Scientists Consider Impossible to Establish Caucasus Countries Union

Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 August /Тrend News corr. J.Babayeva/ Azerbaijani political scientists consider impossible to establish the Caucasus Countries Union.

"It is impossible to establish any union without settlement of the ongoing conflicts in the Caucasus region," Zardusht Alizade, an independent political scientist, said to Trend on 12 August.

On 11 August, Turkish Premier Receb Tayyib Erdogan urged the Caucasus countries to establish the Caucasus Union in connection with the events in Georgia, adding that such a union was impossible without Russia's participation.

According to Alizade, if Russia is pursuing aggressive policy, establishment of any union with the country is out of the question. "Unions are established amongst close countries to lead their relations to the highest level. Erdogan just does not deeply perceive the situation in the post-soviet region. Therefore, he offers senseless proposals," he said.

The political scientists say it is illogical to form the union, whilst there are deep contradictions, occupations, conflicts and hostilities in the Caucasus. "A union of the country which lands are under occupation and the invader country is impossible," Alizade said.

The Turkish Premier's proposal regarding a union is one of his initiatives regarding unities, which he made many times, and establishment of this union is not real, political scientist Hikmat Hajizade said to Trend . "Russia wants to dominate over Caucasus. It is not possible to form a union which members will possess equal rights. Armenia claims for the lands of its neighbor countries, the conflicts have not been solved. So, creation of a union is out of the question," he said.
