Azerbaijan, Baku, 16 August / Trend corr. I.Alizade / Vahdat Azerbaijani opposition party took a decision at the meeting of the Supreme Assembly to nominate the candidature of the Azerbaijani incumbent President Ilham Aliyev. Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October 2008. Till 2006, Vahdat party headed by former chairman of Azerbaijani Supreme Court and MP Tahir Karimli, had kept to the opposition course. At present, Vahdat supports the political course of the authorities. On 2 August, Aliyev's candidature was officially nominated to the presidential post in the meeting of the New Azerbaijani party (NAP). So far, Aliyev's candidature has been nominated by Ana Vatan and Social Welfare parties. Furthermore, Aliyev's candidature was nominated by the Azerbaijani Trade Union and Red Half Moon Society. |
