Georgia to Reconstruct Its Air Defense System with Help of US, NATO, Says Deputy Minister

Georgia, Tbilisi, 22 August/ Trend , corr N. Kirtskhalia/ Georgia will reconstruct its air defense system with the help of US and NATO, Batu Kutelia, deputy defense minister of Georgia said after his meeting with the special envoy of NATO Secretary General Robert Simmons and John Craddock, supreme commander-in-chief of Allied Armed Forces of NATO in Europe and US general.

"New air defense system will be equipped so that it will be able to protect air space of the country from any military aircrafts in short, medium and long ranges and provide security not only certain regions of Georgia, but whole country," he said.

NATO has stated it is ready to help Georgia in seven areas to restore its defense infrastructure and especially air defense system.
