Azerbaijani Opposition Party to Reconsider Its Decision on Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 August / Trend corr. E.Babayev / Azerbaijani opposition Adalat party has not take the final decision regarding the presidential elections. "The meeting of party's Political Council is expected to be held until the end of August to take the final decision on the presidential elections," Elkhan Shukurlu, Deputy Chairman of Adalat party, told Trend .

Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October 2008.  

Shukurlu said that Ilyas Ismayilov, Chairman of the party, visits Russia. Ismayilov is expected to come back to Baku on the next week. "Initially, Ismayilov did not want to nominate his candidature. However, it was not the final decision. The final decision will be made at the meeting of the Political Council," Shukurlu said.

Adalat Party was founded in 1993. In 1996, the party joined a different opposition party, the Democratic Party. However, in 2000 Adalat was then re-established by separating from the Democratic Party. MP Ilyas Ismaylov has been the chairman of the party since 2001. Ismaylov was a candidate for the presidential post during the elections in 2003.
