Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 August / Trend corr. E.Babayev / Azerbaijani opposition Adalat party has defined the candidate to nominate to the presidential elections.
"Adalat will support the candidature of Fazil Gaznfaroglu, chairman of the Great Establishment Party (GEP)," a source told Trend .
Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October. Ilyas Ismayilov, chairman of Adalat party, stated that he would not nominate his candidature to the presidential post.
GEP Assembly has nominated Gazanfaroglu's candidature. The Central Election Commission (CEC) approved his candidature.
Elkhan Shukurlu, Deputy Chairman of Adalat, initiated to nominate Gazanfaroglu's candidature. Shukurlu's supporters have already commenced the process to collect the necessary 40,000 signatures.
Shukurlu has confirmed that Adalat supporters take part in the campaign to collect the necessary signatures to register Gazanfaroglu's candidature in CEC. "Gazanfaroglu is our close friend. I and my supporters will try Gazanfaroglu to succeed in the upcoming presidential elections," Shukurlu said. Touching upon the decision to support Gazanfaroglu's candidature, Shukurlu said that it was one the versions. Party may support another candidate, who close to the party.
Adalat Party was founded in 1993. In 1996, the party joined a different opposition party, the Democratic Party. However, in 2000 Adalat was then re-established by separating from the Democratic Party. MP Ilyas Ismaylov has been the chairman of the party since 2001. Ismaylov was a candidate for the presidential post during the elections in 2003.
