EU Wants to be More Active for Withdrawal of Russian Troops from Georgia: EU Special Envoy

Georgia, Tbilisi, 30 August /corr. Trend N.Kirtskhalia / Intensive discussions are being held in the structures of the European Union over the issue of making the EU role more active to immediately withdraw the armed forces of Russia from the occupied territory of Georgia and assisting this country in eradicate the results of military aggression by Russia, the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus, Peter Semneby, said during his meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, Grigol Vashadze.  

He emphasized that these questions will be discussed at the EU higher level summit, called by the President of France Nikola Sarkozi for September 1 in Brussels.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the situation appeared after Russian aggression and occupation of the territory of Georgia.

Vashadze acquainted the European side with the view of Georgian side on the deepening and development of the relations of Georgia with the European Union, taking into consideration new realities, and proposed close co-operation in this plan. In addition, he noted that Russia still does not implement the conditions of the six-point agreement, reached at the initiative the President of France.
