Italy Demands Absolute Implementation of All Points of Georgian-Russian Agreement

Georgia, Tbilisi, 4 September / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / The Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini demands abolition of invaders' all posts, which contradict six-point agreement coordinated through mediation of the European Union (EU) chairman, the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and his Russian counterpart Dmitriy Medvedev, Frattini said at a joint news conference with the Georgian Foreign Minister Yekaterina Tkeshelashvili in Tbilisi on 3 September.

Frattini stressed that the EU special monitoring mission would thoroughly study implementation of points of agreements by 15 September. "We intend to work actively within the framework of this mission," he said The mission should get access to all conflict regions. It is necessary to abolish all illegal block-posts, he added.

" Russia also stated that it was withdrawing the Russian troops from Poti and we intend seriously to control this process," the Italian Foreign Ministry said.

Frattini stressed that he understood well Georgia's position and its demand, but was against isolation of Russia. "We are prepared to assist in Georgia's integration into the EU and at the same time we will continue to render humanitarian aid to Georgia," he said.
