Russia Not to be Left Alone to Recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia: State Duma

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 September / Trend corr. V.Zhavoronkova/ Recognition of independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia does interest the world much more than the military actions in South Ossetia, Chairman of the Russian Parliamentary Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev said on the air of Vesti channel on 5 September.

Russia unilaterally recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

"The fact that Nicaragua's administration recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia is the result of government's choice. Any informed person knows that Russia will not be left alone in this situation," Kosachev said.

Nicaragua recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, country's President Daniel Ortega said on 2 September.

According to Kosachev, Georgia attempted to act in the interests of the United States and that resulted in failure for all, including Georgian people. "For Ukraine, Azerbaijan and all countries, to which U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney has paid visits, the issue is of great importance to preserve their sovereignty and relations with other countries, such as Russia," he said.
